I've tried to email you. Is there a way I may reach out to you personally., Alison. I tried the garrulous glaswegian email address a few months ago. Thanks
To me, feminism was one of many areas of thought that fractured the true ideal of equality for everyone, on every level.
We may not all be equal (I will *never* defeat Usain Bolt in a footrace or successfully challenge Einstein's Theory of Relativity), but we should *all* be treated equally and fairly.
The bulk of humanity lacks the intelligence to see the obviousness of this ideal, so they insist on perpetuating the mistakes of past generations, finding more and more nits to pick that further separate "them" from "us", never realizing that these designations are entirely arbitrary and completely bullshit.
(For this discussion, I'm ignoring the politicians and other fuckwits who achieve their own goals by enflaming these thoughts in others.)
I used to argue with the shamfems and panderers, pointing out what feminism really meant - but as the waves of quislings washed over us all and drowned out the voice of rational debate, I decided that instead of playing King Canute, I'd simply get up and walk away.
I was aware or the waves of feminism reference without clear understanding of them. Thank you for the defining characteristics. "Where are the feminists?" is more properly "what happened to feminism?"
The big thing is that words need to have meaning. Half a century ago I read the Dialogs of Plato. A thing that stood out was that at the beginning of a debate about something the definition of that something was agreed upon so everyone was talking about the same thing. It is still essential.
Thanks Dave, I am sure you recognise this as a slightly reworked version of a Medium essay. I removed it from Medium because an independent was going to publish it. But they wanted too many changes and additions, it just wasn't worth the extra work, so I figured fuck it, I like it, I am sharing it again :)
And yes, absolutely - words mean things, as a man I used to follow in an early Twitter incarnation was fond of saying. We don't get to invent our own definitions, once we start that nonsense, we might as well give up on language altogether.

Maybe it is time for 5th wave feminism which is all about women's rights and fairness for women.
I'll never call myself a feminist again, it's been irreparably sullied for me by lobbiyists.
I understand. I never called myself one but given the circumstances of my childhood I was in harmony with the early versions.

As is your norm, your articles don't disappoint.
